ABOUT

Rock My World Canada is all about Canadian music.  Since 2013 we have become the un-official historian of the history of music and artists in Canada. Browse our site and discover thousands of Canadian musicians and bands across all genres, from the 50's to today.

This website was designed as a companion piece to the book series Rock My World Canada! by Mike Carr.  To date, Mike has self-published two reference and collectors guides with more to come on the near future.

In 2018 Canadian Alternative & Indie Reference and Collector's Guide was published and promoted with the help of Alan Cross.  This issue contains over 900 musical acts and over 3000 album covers from Canada's famous and not so famous musicians.  It's like going to the record store without going to the record store!  The goal is for you to discover something new as you view the pages, a musical act you might have never heard of, but for some reason that album cover has peaked your interest, and before you know it, you're on the internet checking it out.

Alan Cross, author of A Journal Of Musical Things, broadcaster, host and creator of The Ongoing History Of New Music writes this:  “If you’re at all into collecting/cataloguing/researching Canadian music, this pictorial discography—and the “pictorial” part of that description is very important in the digital era--will be immensely valuable. It’s fun to flip through, too, because it offers a new perspective on a whole universe of our music.”

And in 2020 I released Canadian Blues Reference and Collector's Guide with a foreword by Gary Kendall of the Legendary Downchild blues Band, who also celebrated 50 years as a band in 2020. This guide contains all things Canadian Blues.  This issue contains 215 full colour pages, over 700 artists and nearly 2800 album covers. Although it is not a full discography of each artist, collectors may find this a valuable resource and starting point when on the search for Canadian blues artists. New in this guide are lists of blues festivals, societies, record labels and for those that like live music, there is now an Autograph page.

Gary Kendall, from the legendary Downchild Blues Band and the Mighty Duck Blues Band writes this:  “Finally someone has stepped up and dedicated hours, days, months and years to a project that documents what Canada has contributed to the world’s wealth of Blues recordings. Canadian Blues, Reference & Collectors Guide bears witness to a growing art form.  Flip through the pages, find music you’ve missed or overlooked and remind yourself of pieces you may have forgotten.  Mostly remember one thing, “You Can’t Lose If You Love The Blues”.

We're all about promoting Canadian musical artists!

Our goal is to become one of the largest databases of Canadian music ever!  All genres are welcome! Artists are invited to submit your info to get listed on our site to [email protected].  And there is no charge for new artists to get listed - the qualifier is that you have released as a minimum, an album or EP.  As an added bonus, we link your releases back to your website or Bandcamp page.

How we earn a living by doing this!

Maintaining a site like this is no small task!  And it's very costly, as any artist with their own website can attest. That being said we rely on the support of the Canadian music lovers out there.  Here is how you can help Rock My World Canada continue to document Canada's musical heritage!
